Zulkarnain Sadali. I'm nineteen but I tend to forget so I unknowingly tell people I'm eighteen. Ridiculous, I know. I'm a rockstar in between the sets, no eyeliner and cigarettes. Life is magical, but its not so fantastic. Oh.
A student in Temasek Polytechnic's IIT School, majoring in Interactive Media Informatics, (IMI) with intentions of making it in the Media industry, a far cry from anything in IT. But I'm open to its possibilities.
I like to leave a little mystery in everything I type, and certain times I do not like to be obvious. I rather speak in tounges and cryptically because that's how I roll. But I always stand by my beliefs.
Just like Hannah Montana, I get the best of both worlds. I like fun but I don't mix anything together. Except when socialising though. Anything goes.
I'm a good boy, most of the times. Of course I shan't deny. I can be a real devil.
I repeat, I stand by my beliefs. If you don't like it, then you should put a red X on it.

Surprised? This is my 33rd layout. The 41-month long run of DONT-CHA.blogspot.com spawned many layouts, from graphic art to vectors, to very narcissistic ones.
The layout is based on Lady GaGa's video, Poker Face. The layout goes hand-in-hand in promoting her debut album, The Fame.

Goodbye, For A Year

11:50 pm
The image's blur because... Well, just because. Our other image together was also in similar condition. Blur. And Wen Hao's not the one to take photos, thus I appreciate a blur one.
He is my friend Wen Hao. He always pisses me off. He pokes fun at me about my weight, my intelligence and most irritatingly of all... He pokes fun at me being me.
But that's the thing that I love most about him. I have no idea why, but I'm never angry when he makes fun of me because I know he doesn't mean it. Though slowly I've started to rethink that idea. Hah.
He's leaving Singapore later, 12.30am, and I'm gonna miss him a hell lot. Even though I haven't seen him over a year, him leaving Singapore is like a confirmation that I won't be able to see him for a year.
"This is my last chance to see you before you leave. I don't care," in a message I sent to him.
I went all the way to Dover to meet him.
But I couldn't come empty-handed.
I thought of so many gift ideas for him. He was very fond of the Rubik's Cube, and then it hit me. I should do a hybrid!
And to the drawing board I went.
(If you are clueless to what a Rubik's Cube is, this is it.)
STEP 1: With FreeHand, I laid out the images as tiles...
And read if you want, my letter to him. And yes, that's you, Geri! (can you even read it, btw?)
STEP 2: Go print it on GLOSSY sticker paper. Cost about $2 for an A4 size.
STEP 3: Cut each group first.
STEP 4: Cut each individual tiles and place them in an orderly manner before pasting.
(yes, that's a photo of Wen Hao smiling like an ass after I told him to smile)
STEP 5: Paste lovingly. Mainly because if you buy a cheap cube, the coloured tiles (that are pasted for you) are not pasted properly.
STEP 6: Do all the sides...
and WALLAH! Its complete!
When I passed the cube to him, I said, "MEMORISE. QUICK." So he did, (I think) and then I grabbed the cube back and shuffled it so that he can solve it. Plus I didn't want him to read the letter side with me there. Shy laa.
Wen Hao playing it. HAHAHA. (thanks Josie for the pic)
He later smsed me, "Solved. More difficult lah." and he's damn expert at Rubik's. Trust me.
I'll miss you man. I wonder where you'll be when you read this.
Firstly, I met with Ms Ilyana today as she returned me my cute coinpurse. She was so shocked when I gave her a card to show my appreciation. HAHA. :) Okayokay, on with the show.
Anyway, how did I turn this...
TO THIS!
YES! I actually did it! :D Sad thing is: I can't really see through with the glitter being all up on the lenses, but I can however use my peripherals (the corners of my eyes) to walk and see things and stuff. HAHA.
AND! A video of me teaching you how to do this was filmed. A one man show once again -_-, but it proved to be good, I think. I'll be out in a week or so.
Well, I have one last paper, it will be on Tuesday! Then I'm free! At least until my results are released. To be honest, I'm struggling (or struggled) with Programming and Mathematics. I'm trying. Maybe not trying hard enough.
I'm gonna start looking at my Mathematics book. Binomial, anyone?
AND YOU KNOW WHAT! Remember this post? Well, I got picked! AWESOME RIGHT! I get to trial (for a month) the new Nokia 5800 XpressMusic that is out this week. Thanks Josie, love you girl! But having the sneak preview of Role Models at the same time was NOT cool! :( Bo got the tickets and I can't go with him. TSK!
I still appreciate it a lot! Thanks again girl.
BTW, I don't know if you're reading this, all the best for your paper tomorrow. I know, it's the third time I'm saying this.
As the new year for the Chinese growls in, or should I say MOOs in (since it would be the year of the Ox), a new television show that I personally think will be a huge hit in Singapore is Live 'n' Loaded.
The hour-long show is a platform for local bands and artists to have their musical talents be seen across the country by the watchful eyes. Honestly, I'm excited to see the kind of raw talent that has been less apparent these days.
After the end of Live The Dream and Singapore Idol, Channel 5 never really had anything I could look forward to, but Live 'n' Loaded is something I would watch. Without shows like these, the likes of Hady and Taufik are not discovered, at least not on a nationwide level.
Promotional tours at the polytechnics, radio and television, MediaCrap/Corp is making sure you tune in.
I am a supporter of local music. Such local acts like The Great Spy Experiment and Electrico have proved that it is possible (though not easy) to make it in the almost extinct music scene in Singapore. Even so, are they really THAT successful?
Who am I to say? I am a consumer of music but look around. Ask someone on the street about The Great Spy Experiment. They'd think it is a conspiracy by the Bush administration.
Think about it.
Where are all the P.Ramlees, or the next generation of Dick Lee? And can they find someone fresh and new to take over the job of Gurmit Singh as host? They're gone. Or at least we think they're gone.
I think it's because of Singapore's rush to develop that made all the thriving art and culture to disappear. We are a nation full of creative and artistic kids but we all aim to have that accounting job or that CEO position. Nobody wants to live their dreams.
Or at least, nobody dares to.
Everyone is so scared to 'earn less' doing something they love and they want to do something safe. Why?
While you can answer yourself this question, with a million excuses and plausible answers, think about this.
While you are unwilling to live your dream, or even if your dream is not to be on stage, why are you not supportive of your fellow people when they dare to live their dreams?
Support local music, art and talent. And by support, I don't mean pay. By support, I mean,
"Do you bother to even pay them any attention?"
Please do not believe myths that local music, art and talent are nothing but junk. They're really awesome.
Comment questions 1) Are you a supporter of local music? 2) Are you willing to pay for local music? 3) Recommend ways for local talents to get a headstart. 4) Are you living YOUR dream, or do you intend to? 5) What are your plans for your future?
SUPPORT LOCAL TALENT!
Tune in to LIVE 'n' LOADED, Tuesday, 27th January 2009, 8.30 pm
note: sadly, this message was NOT PAID by MediaCrap. I just support local music.
In recent months, I designed a cute little shoe for my friend and grrrrlfriend, Aini. It was for her birthday, and I thought it was really adorable. But while doing it, I thought I wanted one for myself. So when the opportunity (that's cash) came in, I decided it was time to design a shoe of my own.
I went to buy a pair of canvas-based loafers (check this post) and found inspiration in the oriental design. I decided to go ahead with it and started sketching the night I got the loafers.
Drawing this was quite easy, everything had to be done freehand, no stencil, but still, the details were not so important. It was only important when the colours come in.
I had to use Acrylic paint, as recommended by the salesgirl at Creative Hands. This became an advantage as I already own a whole set of acrylic paint, but I think I need to buy a new set.
So, since you're here, take a look at the design!
Finishing touches: Signature and advertisement. :D
I think the gold really stands out. Oh, I'm so in love with the loafers. I think it the best art piece I've done ever!
The total cost of this art piece is about $20, mainly because I already had paint left. Dad suggested I should start a business. Though it has been in my mind that I should start a business a long time ago, I did the loafers for fun, my own time, my own target. So it might be different having a deadline.
Oh what do you think? Should I start my own shoe designing business?
Comment Questions: 1) What do you think of the loafers I designed? 2) Do you agree with my father? Should I start a shoe designing business? 3) If I were to make another shoe, what should the design be like? 4) If I do start a business, would you be willing to pay $25 - $30 for the design? (and its uniqueness, e.g. one of a kind)
Well, guess who's more relaxed now? ME. Okay, what's with the guessing games this week? LOL.
Today was the day I submit my 40 x 15 inch canvas of "Where The Streets Have No Name" by U2. This was my way of expressing the song in my own way, and... Oh I'm too lazy to paraphrase. Here's why I wrote in my report.
The song talks about running away, “I want to run/I want to hide/I want to tear down the walls/That hold me inside” and this gave me a sense of panic, a situation of which I am in. I was greatly inspired by the painting, The Scream by Munch. The character, Rob, that is portrayed on my artwork is seen on the left hand corner of the canvas, and his hands are on his face (similar to right) and with mouth open, but this time, the tongue is sticking out. The tongue will be coloured with shades of grey. This is to represent the road, which the apparent street will have. The tongue sticking out will join a collage of photos and it will imitate a spiral and this in turn represents the highs and lows of life. The collage of photos represent the memories and as the “memories” reach the end, strings of different colours to represent the other people that wish to run away as well. The strings are inspired by the line, “We're beaten and blown by the wind”, and this means that the strings will be able to flow freely, only one end is attached to the canvas. Rob’s hair will be represented by puzzle pieces, and this is because of the confusion and contemplation of running away.
All in all, it’s a modern, emo-inspired look into The Scream and how it can join the song.
There you have it. Oh and time for photos! :D
MY MUSE! Yeah, he was my "model" for the painting, though I didn't want the painting to look like him at all. LOL!
And here you have Nicholas and ZhiLi giving the artwork a tribute. Amazingly cute somehow these clowns.
My artwork alongside Michelle's (L) and Sarah's (R).
This will also be the LAST TIME EVER we will see Ms Kat Ho :( SAD LAA; she's so sarcastic subtly. HAHA. She's a great lecturer too :D Bye Visual Literacy.
And lastly...
BOO!
Me: I wanted the painting to be dark and scary without using dark colours. Ms Ho: Is it scary, class? Class: YES! Ms Ho: Oh dear, that's just disturbing to me.
HAHAHAHAHAHHA. Simly LOLarious.
Oh and if you actually visited AGRWBANH, you would have known that my dear friend, Luqman appeared on one of the videos taken at Singfest. If you re-watch it or take a look at this screen capture, he looks like an ass. Plus, yours truly is there too. MUAHAHAHHAHAHAHA!
I guess that's about it, no comment questions, but haish so sad I have to take the sup paper for programming. :(
Visual Literacy is one of the modules that I'm taking and my first assignment that was given was about exploring basic shapes and making them grow/transform into something more complex.
Initially, I did an uninspired piece, totally different from the thematic one above (we'll get to that piece a bit later) and it was really random. It was different, random pieces put together to become what seems a desperate piece; an excuse to finish the work faster.
However, days before, I was literally stoning in front of my desktop, and I thought of Alice in Wonderland. Then again, it might be too ambitious, so I just dropped the idea. Then, yesterday morning, I was chilling with my mum before school, watching MTV and Gwen Stefani's video came on. "What You Waiting For", the video, was a good representation of Gwen, and the video itself was inspired by Alice.
Then, what if, I thought, the whole story could be related to me?
And thankfully, it did. Alice was a lonely girl. I am a rather lonely boy. Stuck in a crazy world; to meet strange yet interesting people. And once you find someone you really respect, they backstab you, just like one of my old friends similarly when Alice met the Queen and when the Queen saw Alice as a threat, she made the whole kingdom turn against Alice. Yeah, quite familiar, no?
And the Cashire Cat? It represents my parents. No matter how crazy they are, at the end of the day, they're always there to protect me.
I'm a happy person.
By the way, I shopped today and spent $100. Yes, I'm really a happy person. I bought Dad a gift and I'm hoping he'll like it. HAHA. (And I love my new Kanye-esque shades. It's so... Retro. And the beanie? You'll see on Monday.
(P/S: I'm not a spoilt brat. The all the money spent today was part of my hard earned pay. :) No using of parents money excessively, thanks!)

10:20 pm
Today was papers Maths 2 & Art. Maths 2 was great because the questions that I could do; I could really do and the ones that I couldn't were just hopeless. LAWL! Art was great and I don't really want to blog about it because it would be too long.
But you know what? I'm really proud of my artwork! I agree, it doesn't look its best but it has a lot of meaning though you really have to think around it.
It's called 'Thinking Cap' (just so I don't stray away from the topic) and it has a lot of 3D textures, like the streaks at the side and the clouds next to my head. It basically tells a story of me and my loves. Language, Music and Computer (though on the art paper I had little time and space to draw the laptop.)
I was having a trial run last night before sleeping and I got it done. Problem was I saw a sad face on the painting, and it is a painting to represent myself. So I prayed to God that today would go fine because I slept at 4 am doing my art piece and woke up 7 am just in time for Maths paper and if it wasn't for Dad who sent me to school, I would have died. Still, I was hoping I could find peace and serenity within three hours of sleep and I did, queerly of course.
Still, hoping for the best, I went on to do art and I realised, the painting smiled back at me. No, I'm not going crazy, but it's like, "Satisfaction; the hard part is over" and I find pride in that simple painting because it represent who I am and how happy I have become through my loves.
Oh yes.
People may find it weird but signs come and go on everything. So I'm happy. I know I worked hard; and I didn't slack like I expected I would. Things happen for the best if I work for it.
So over the course for seven days, only out of the two isn't an O level related post. Jup and I are fine; but I still miss him like a lot. Hey, my best friend, okay.
Tomorrow will be the write-up for the "Heroes", the essay version and then following that should be the other version that I thought of. If anything happens, I'll update the blog with those stories on another day.
With that, I bid you goodnight and good luck for the rest of the papers.
Something's happening behind the scenes, I just need to know what. (Oh, its a personal matter babe.)
I know, it isn't fantabulously supercalifragalisticexpialadocious, but I like it and yes, I still need to improve it. Art students, from this picture, you can tell what topic I chose for the O levels.
HEADGEAR
Again, like my Paper 1 Coursework, this one will be conceptual. I don't know. Not many people chose headgear, and I think I'm the only one. Majority chose Enhanced, so being the antagonistic me, I chose some ulu* topic.
Things are going smoothly, but believe me when I said I started work last Thursday. Okaylah, now I can cover three pages without photographs, so I reckon if I print, I can do up to like four pages, and then I have to do the colour plans, which won't take longer than half a day and then the final piece (or prototype) if I feel like it. Of course, if possible, I plan to go beyond the minimal 5-pages and do up to eight. I already have three layouts, of which each has a special meaning.
Apparently Ms Oh's class is encouraged to do up to ten pages, making use of all space available.
So to wrap up, I only have these as my to-do list.
Print the photographs! Yes, this is important!
More sketches like eight to ten?
More small paintings like seriously, need the practice
One more layout? Or at least until I do a layout that I'm happy with
Colour plans Crucial, I'm using the computer again.
Final Piece (Prototype) Only if I feel like it.
I think all my classmates have artiste reference. I don't know about myself. Perhaps.
For now, I'm sick of doing art. I want to start practising my Mathematics! It's this Monday and Tuesday!
BTW! Who is interested in a step-by-step guide to writing a good essay for the English paper this Monday? Because if someone wants it, I'll type what I know. HAHAHA. Yes, another Zul-Original, lawl, but only if you need it, because I'll need an hour to type it out. I assure you, its useful :)

Just like last time, some raw some edited; photographs straight from my phone. Can you decipher a story behind every photograph? By the way, I really am thankful for the wonderful response for last night's entry. I didn't know that the response would be so... Blog worthy! Thank you so much!
Amber worked his magic when I peeled off my eraser's paper-based exterior to reveal an all-white canvas-like texture. He took his felted tip pen and worked his way around the canvas and now, my eraser's been pimped!
I wrote a song. What can you infer?
oh mister tambourine, when no one is there, to watch you perform, you'll look for me. look for me.
oh mister tambourine, won't you play that song? play that rip-off song of everybody!
oh mister tambourine, won't you get a life, stop chasing everyone around you're becoming a pest.
oh mister tambourine, won't you just get lost and make the lives of your friends much better.
For some reason, I don't feel like talking today. Idiots are coming in and out of my life; becoming a normalcy. That's not good. LAWL.
Please be patient while it loads. Usually its fast. :/ If not just wait to see the animation! To stare at a frame for a longer time, just hover over the animation.
I don't exactly remember what I wrote on my board to describe my painting, but I'll try to recall the most that I can. She takes out her little black book, writes, "$50", realising she has just finally gotten enough to pay for her daughter's school books for the end of the year. After the divorce from her husband, she finds it hard to get a solid amount of income. She's trapped beyond her control, all to support herself and her daughter.
Many times she asked herself, "why am I doing this? Sleeping with countless amount of men... and for what?!"She's still reeling in disbelief that she has to carry a box of condoms wherever she goes. ---------------------------------------- The legs in the background are painted silver to represent jail bars and it is as though she is really trapped, with her fist holding tight to the bars. The first pair of legs from the left side of the picture is of different size to show the difference in depth. The leg is also meshed with a cabinet and each cabinet represents a part of her, past and present. She peers out of the bars to look for sympathy. For the next two legs, the different poses of the legs signify her waiting for her 'clients'. The last post is her tugging her skirt because even though she may be a prostitute, she still has some sense of modesty in herself because her profession is not a choice; but a force.
I am so glad I can finally (and officially) say BYE BYE to the coursework! Quite frankly, I'm very happy with the results, however if I had more time on it, I'd go even deeper with it. Regardless, that artwork of mine took me... (Let me get my calculator)
Estimated more than 70 hours on this.
That's not including the research. I've have had many mishaps - it's actually visible from the animation. Once, Firdaus A got so irritating I actually ruined a large part of my painting, which is one of the legs on the left side of the picture.
Well, here's the research/preparatory boards.
YAH I KNOW! It's Madonna again! I reused the painting because simply put, it's the first painting I've ever done all on my own and it turned out great!
A little experimentation, yup, that's me.
Just Ridhwan here...
This is my favourite board, period.
Lighting really sucks. LOL.
The circle circle dot dot is the description okay! LOL
I actually used Photoshop for the colour plans! It might look easy, but it took me (on and off) 2 days! Take a looksie.
YAH I KNOW IT SUCKS. You need not say a thing. However, the type out looks rocking!
I'll talk to you guys soon, alright. Perhaps something serious, maybe? See y'all real soon! :)
I'm still alive; I've no time to update, but I just want to say... This boy here just gave me a million reasons why I love him. He's my brother; for life.
Oh and yesterday's plan went in vain as my paint went missing. I blew up like an A-bomb. Seriously. I'll shut up and get back to work now.
On a side note before I start blogging, because of yesterday's post, I've gotten more that 140 different visitors from around the world, and people have been consoling me online and offline. :) LOVES! Thanks for tagging and sms-ing me!
Art has been kinda pressurising me, but I'm holding on, still have my head on my neck. With the deadline about 48 hours away, am I worried? Of course I am! I'm just glad to still have whatever time left. I'm not sleeping tonight though. There's still a big patch of a hot ass mess I still need to fix on my canvas. What to do... what to do?
So, this is my itinerary for tonight and tomorrow night. Due to time constraints, I have to be strict with myself and stick to this itinerary.
Tonight 1930 - 2200: Finish colour plans with Photoshop; send Amirul for printing. 2200 - 2230: Research/Break. 2230 - 2315: Create a new layout (and draw on paper) 2315 - 2330: Break (Supper or whatever is refreshing) 2330 - 0130: Fix/Paint canvas. 0130 - 0145: Break. 0145 - 0245: Continue to paint 0245 - 0315: Lay for the boards 2, 3. REST.
*by the time school finishes tomorrow, I should finish painting the canvas. If not, the canvas must be brought home to be continued.
Tomorrow night 1930 - 2200: Create layout 3 & 4 2200 - 0000: Reverse research 0000 - 0100: Confirm preparatory board and paste pictures. 0100 - end: Finish of painting. *
PLease do not assume Art is a difficult subject to take as an elective. This difficulty only happens to people who push every thing to the last minute. LMAO.
