Review :: Katharine McPhee

[katmcphee.jpg]Katharine McPhee :: Katharine McPhee

The Introduction: The woman that should have taken home the idol throne; lost to a 28 year-old guy who looks thrice his age, this is Miss Katharine. Her album is amazing. The album was released on 30th January, though I only took notice earlier today while I was out with Akmal. I was at MPH and they played one of her songs, "Dangerous", and I thought it was I don't know... Someone else. When I went to check, it was Katharine McPhee! I'm very excited about this. An online friend once told me her album was great, even Amirul told me so, and though I didn't listen to him, I wished I did earlier!

What's Different: In my honest opinion, it isn't that different from any typical pop album, but what stands out is her voice. It's like a softer Christina but a stronger Britney, obviously she looks better than both of them. Since this is her first album, I shall give her a chance because of the diversity of her songs. I gotta admit, the songs in her album is more RnB than pop. I love it. She's like a black woman inside, just dying to come out! Kat co-writes 3 songs on this album.

I'm reviewing six tracks, her first single, Over It, then Dangerous, Everywhere I Go, Each Other, Open Toes and Home. This is the most I reviewed because I really love her songs. All these songs are stuck in my head! YEAH!

Over It sounds like a JoJo track. It's not a diss, but it sounds similar to Too Little Too Late. You can conclude it's a mid-tempo, more to the fast side then. It's more or less the same, and I can't really compare which is better, because both are great, lol. My favourite part is the chorus. "Wanting you, to be wanting me./No that ain't no way to be./How I feel, read my lips, because I'm so over.../Moving on, its my time, you never were a friend of mine./Hurt at first, a little bit, but now I'm so over./I'm so over it..." The song is a self-improvement song. For sour friendships, stupid old flings and such. They're such a waste of time and this song says so!

Dangerous! He'll steal your heart away, then run and play! This is my favourite song off her album, and it's fast, (not as fast as Lose My Breath by Destiny's Child, but still considered fast, lol) This song basically has revenge written all over. "Be on the lookout when he's coming to your area/I fell in love with him once, girls, I'm telling ya" although that part was sung by her back up singers, I still love the song, and yes, it's the type of song that she doesn't really sing alone, but it still stands out. The chorus got me hooked. It's playing on auto in my head!

Everywhere I Go talks about this girl whose boyfriend have lost feelings for her. I can put my shoes in this girl. Really. More or less, I've been in this position in past relationships. My favourite part is this, "But I was always giving into promises/I never should have gone for/I should have never longed for you no matter how hard it gets", and it made me think. I always and always fall for promises and I should have known that what I'm waiting for isn't and never gonna be there. This song made me open my eyes. Another part is, "Just when I/Thought I was done/You pulled me in/For another run", and it made me think (yet again). You think you moved on then this person comes back in your life, you know? The melody of the song is simply amazing, mid-tempo with nice piano. Loves it.

Each Other Another mid-tempo to die for. "I don't know how you did it/But you made me a believer/I never thought that love/Could turn someone into a dreamer" and its true. Love can make your mind go crazy-wazy. LOL. "When the hard times confront me/You always showed me that you care/And I believe/you are my rescue/When I see you right there" and for any relationship, friends, family, or whoever (ahem ahem), this is true. Whenever you need someone to rescue you, if the person is there, WALAU! That's awesome. That's true friendship/family ties/love. Really.

Open Toes is a type of shoe, isn't it? YEP. The "Jumpin' Jumpin'" of this album is definitely a club banger. You'll find your head banging. The song doesn't really have an emotional value because it's what you do at a club. The chorus is my one of my favourite part, especially this, "Mini skirt/Feet don't hurt/Just a flirt/Too cute in my open toes" WEEEEE. LOL. "Put em on! Put em on! Let's go!" Probably the most addictive part song! Y'all gotta give this song a listen!

Home; hard to see beautiful in your own eyes but you make me feel beautiful for the very first time. What is it like to be called beautiful by someone who makes you feel loved? Lyrically, this song is awesome. Makes me all tingly deep inside, and "Does anybody know what it's like/To feel larger than life/To look deep in your soul/And know you're not alone", gives this song that extra oomph. This is like the Dangerously in Love for Kat Mcphee's debut album, a ballad to complete the album.

That's it! I'm in love with this girl! She's making money and woooooo is she hot or what?! I'm kinda glad she didn't win American Idol. If she did, her album wouldn't be the same, no? She won't even write on the songs, I think.

Album Rating: Similar, 9/10. I just love it. Really. I'm hooked. GO GET IT.
